It was the passion for decorating ,and creating beautiful fine detailed things that whirled Zahirah Motala Sardar into the world of oozy Ganache, swiss meringue buttercream and decadent mud cakes to name a few of her favorite things.
Way back in 2005 the year her first son was born when Zahirah or fondly known as zalita found herself searching for cupcake images to paint when she was whisked down the rabbit hole into the world of cupcakes on flickr. Flickr was an online picture sharing site which cake decorators formed groups to showcase their works and inspire each other. Zahirah found herself being the only South African amature cake decorator decided to make pretty cute cupcakes for fun and share them with her newly found online friends. Soon she inspired a small community of local and overseas friends to join flickr and the rest is history.
Zahirah was hugely inspired by the famous Kylie lambert of le cupcake in austrailia whose work originally caught the eye of Zahirah and inspired and encouraged her to try her hand at cupcake decorating. Soon Family and friends (her happy guinea pigs) encouraged her to start her own cupcake business called Cupcake D’lights.
In the beginning Zahirah blogged almost every day her pretty cupcake creations and was featured in News papers, magazines, online communities . She was fortunate to have card and candle companies in Europe buy the rights to her pictures. Her cupcake business was well up and running as decorative cupcakes were hitting the south African market and soon her days were filled with cupcakes marhsmallows and yummy chocolate ganache.
Today Zahirah specializes in wedding cakes, teaching lessons to her students from around the globe and keeping her good old clients happy. Iv created cakes for kids from their first birthdays and their mums happily return every year which proves to us that we are loved by our clients even though the market today is flooded with cake decorators.
Zahirah does not bake her own cakes but has specially trained bakers and chefs to bake her cakes, cupcakes and cookies which frees her up to concentrate on the decorating. Her styles most of them unique have been reproduced world wide her signature rose and pearl cupcakes and stenciled cupcakes are now on every pinterest board.
In 2015 Zahirah realized she was doing more tiered wedding cakes and teaching which made her realize that it was time for a change. She has exciting plans for Cakes and canvas in 2016 which she knows will take her into a whole new and amazing era of cake and cupcake décor.
